Groundbreaking Celebrates Beginning of Grace Fitness Center Project!
The groundbreaking for the Grace Fitness Center was held under a beautiful blue sky last Friday on the site of the future facility. Many dignitaries, donors and supporters came together to celebrate the launch of this important project.
Headmaster Matt Pollock began with a few introductory remarks focused on what God is doing on our campus. Les Compton then observed that this was a time of transition as we finish off long held dreams in order to move on to new ones. He finished with comments about the opportunities that lie before us and the commitment it will take to realize them.
Mr. Pollock then introduced our general contractor, Mr. Don Oscai (pronounced, "O-C") to the assembled crowd. Mr. Oscai demonstrated quite a ministry focus in his remarks, both from his own role in the construction of the building and how this facility will be used for the glory of God when it is built.
The first groundbreaking pictures were taken, including Steve Carroll (architect), Don Oscai (contractor), Dr. Ben Graham (Pastor), Matt Pollock (Headmaster), Tom Smith (Project Chairman) , Les Compton (Devolopment) and Tom Crum (School Board Chairman) . Dr. Graham then led in a prayer of dedication. Subsequent pictures were taken with the Project Steering Committee, the School Board, former Booster Club presidents and more.
Grace Fitness Center Approved! Ground-breaking Scheduled!
At the conclusion of this past Sunday morning's service, the membership of Grace Baptist Church voted unanimously to proceed with building the Grace Fitness Center. After a 10-12 minute presentation by Headmaster Matt Pollock, questions were entertained from the congregation, the majority of which centered upon daily use and operations of the facility. At the conclusion of the question and answer session the vote was taken. The building has now been ordered and the deposit paid. Shop drawings from the manufacturer will take about two weeks. Just six weeks later the building should be on site.
While waiting for delivery of the building, site preparation will be taking place. Our general contractor is Don Ocsai, of OC Construction.A contract with his company will be signed. We will 'kick off' the Grace Fitness Center with a ground-breaking ceremony on Friday night, September 29 at 6:00 p.m., Grace Academy's Homecoming. This will be the first of several exciting events that evening. Please join our celebration of all that God is doing at Grace !
Grace Fitness Center Funding Passes Important Point!
Over $95K Given In First Months of School
The momentum generated from some significant gifts in the last 30 days has allowed the Grace Fitness Center Fund to surge past a very important landmark.
Last year our governing boards established a $200,000 minimum in cash before ground could be broken on this very important project. With the passing of the 2016-17 school year, it became necessary to reevaluate the numbers on which this decision had originally been based. After assessing the rise in construction costs over the past year, it was decided that the 'break ground' number would need to be raised to $220,000. The generous support of some of our stakeholders has not only allowed us to reach that number but to surpass it comfortably with a current balance of over $250,000.
After affirmation by congregational vote of Grace Baptist Church on Sunday, September 17, ground can officially be broken on this project. With that vote, the building would then be ordered on Monday morning, September 18. It will take 6-8 weeks for delivery and 8-10 weeks to erect, weather permitting. In other words, it could be up by the New Year. Exactly when it is finished and how soon we get occupancy will depend upon further fundraising (The final phase of this project was budgeted at approximately $160,000 and we are already more than $33,000 into that number). The efforts of the entire Grace community will still be necessary to bring the Fitness Center to its successful completion. Please pray for further progress on this goal.
More information will be forthcoming about our plans for the official groundbreaking ceremony, which would be held on Homecoming Night, prior to all the other events of the evening.
In closing we would reiterate our call for three actions: pray, participate and plan to be there on Homecoming Night for a great evening of celebration and reunion, fellowship and football!
